About Me

I have always loved science and been curious about how everything around me works. However, I wasn't actually always a very high achieving student. The dry, exam focused learning in mainstream education did not come naturally to me! Rather, I had to consciously develop revision strategies to be able to pursue competitive studies.

I therefore have a lot of understanding for students that love biology but can’t seem to translate that into high grades. I had to accept that understanding the science and doing well in exams are two different skills and that is what guides my teaching to this day. Part of my lesson will be on trying to transmit my love and enthusiasm about the beautiful world of biology, as it is key to keeping students motivated. However, a large of my lessons is exam preparation and coaching; copious past paper workshopping with students, identifying their exact shortfalls and developing tools for full proof performance.

For my university students, actually having 15 years of experience in academic research means that I can help give them the context that they need to be able to navigate anything from course selection to understanding the truly daunting amount of research literature in biological sciences and compile genuine pieces of work that do not sound AI generated.

My approach to tutoring and mentoring is kind but firm. I hold high expectations of my students and expect them to put in the work consistently if they are to get the most out of my lessons. At the same time, I understand how stressful exam preparation can be and I make a point in cultivating a trusting relationship with all my students.

Tutor Experience

My experience in teaching and mentoring students began 20 years ago. I started tutoring secondary school, A-level and IB students alongside my PhD in 2005. At the same time, I was supervising undergraduate students as part of my academic duties, teaching experimental techniques and guiding them in the world of research.

In 2017, I decided to turn to education full time. I attended a teacher training program called "Researchers In Schools", where academics are placed in secondary education, with the goal of improving the quality of science teaching and inspiring students. This programme was specifically tailored to translate my academic experience into secondary education teaching and mentoring. I was able to gain valuable insight into the challenges and limitations of the educational system and develop ways to support students of all levels, ranging from students with special educational needs to challenging students that have very competitive goals.

I have been a full time tutor and educational resource developer for the last 5 years, as it is something I enjoy so much! This also means that I dedicate the time to ensure that each one of my students gets excellent and consistent resources, feedback and individualised support.

I have had the privilege to tutor over 70 students through the years and I am proud to say that they have all met and exceeded their goals. Over 20 of my students have secured places in medicine and dentistry in the UK, as well as Oxford or Cambridge studies in Biological Sciences.

I have also supported postgraduate students to gain excellent grades in their coursework and dissertations. Just recently, 2 of my students secured highly competitive PhD scholarships in Hong Kong, after conceiving innovative research proposals.

Topic Expertise

My specialism is in Biology A-level and University level, as well as IB Biology. However, I am also an experienced teacher of GCSE Science (all 3 subjects) and have also taught and developed resources for KS3, particularly to help with the transition to GCSE. I also have successfully supported numerous students with their medicine and dentistry applications.

Testimonials

Severine

Eleni is a wonderful teacher (very experienced, patient, caring) who invests a lot of time preparing her lessons to make sure she covers all aspects of what’s needed. She helped our son for several years in Biology and Chemistry and was influential in his success to achieve high grades and get into Med schools. He ultimately chose King’s. We can only highly recommend her.

Shanuki

Eleni is a fantastic tutor and helped me achieve an A* in Biology (A-level), allowing me to secure a place at Kings College London for Medicine. My online lessons with Eleni began at the beginning of Year 13 and she effectively taught new content and reviewed content from Year 12. She is patient, thorough and incredibly well-versed in the field of Biology. She was happy to mark and give feedback on practice questions I completed between lessons and also shared amazing notes and question papers for each topic with me. Finally, she is very friendly and supportive, making each lesson a genuine joy to attend which was conducive to my learning and enthusiasm for the subject. I couldn't recommend Eleni more!

ANNIE

Eleni was recommended to me by a family friend, and I’m very grateful for the introduction. She supported me with interview preparation for the MSc in Clinical Embryology at the University of Oxford. Eleni is a highly professional, experienced, and efficient tutor. Within just a few sessions, she managed to cover a wide range of potential questions thoroughly and effectively. Thanks to her guidance, I not only secured an offer from Oxford but also from Imperial College London. I would strongly recommend her to anyone preparing for competitive applications.

Olga

I would like to highly recommend Eleni. My son used to struggle with Science, and his GCSE prospects seemed dire. However, after a year of tutoring with Eleni, there was a remarkable positive change. Alex's comprehension of Science improved significantly, boosting both his understanding and confidence. Consequently, his grades also saw a notable improvement. In the end, he achieved much better grades in Combined Science than his mock exams had predicted.
Eleni is not only a highly effective tutor but also an incredibly supportive and responsible one. She is a lovely person to work with, and her dedication to her students is evident in the positive outcomes she helps them achieve.
