I am passionate about maths and physics and enjoy sharing this with my students. I am working towards my PhD thesis in statistical physics and complex systems, with published research in scientific journals. During my PhD I worked for my university teaching undergraduate courses and engaged in outreach oppertunities with visiting schools to share my area of research and inspire young minds.
I have been teaching for over 10 years, during which I have developed a thorough understanding of the GCSE and A-level syllabuses across all major exam boards, and unique methods to break down complex concepts and build an intuitive, conceptual understanding. My teaching approach is highly personalised, adapting my techniques to each student by trialling different methods to identify their preferred learning styles.
I have taught large groups in both schools and at university, but I believe one-on-one tutoring is far more effective. It allows focus on the individual needs of each student, working at their own pace, and providing tailored support as they tackle each question. Often, key ideas need to be revisited or rephrased , which is not always possible in a classroom setting. Without this support, gaps in understanding can form, making it harder for students to grasp more advanced topics.
I currently teach undergraduate modules at the University of Manchester and have experience tutoring students from other universities in similar modules. I also specialise in preparing students for university entrance exams, including STEP, MAT, PAT, and TMUA, with a focus on the specific problem-solving techniques commonly required for these types of questions.
I support my students in writing their own notes during lessons, consisting of important rules, formulas, step-by-step methods, and key examples. These notes serve as a valuable resource for homework and revision, helping build both familiarity and confidence through repeated use.
I often set short follow-up questions after lessons to reinforce understanding, and am available to help with any homework I’ve set or that has been assigned by school outside of lessons via the messages on Spires.
GCSE and Alevel maths, further maths, and physics
STEP, MAT, PAT, TMUA, and other university entrance exams
Degree-level university modules within maths and physics courses
Computer programming support in C++ and Python
Having dyslexia myself, I have a keen interest in this unique ability, and how this can lead to certain difficulties. I can help my dyslexic students to understand why they may struggle with some areas but find others easy, and tailor my explanations and support to their requirements.
