About Me

I was awarded my DPhil (PhD equivalent) in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Oxford, where I also earned my MChem, graduating with First Class Honours. For the past 8 years I have been employed teaching undergraduates Mathematics for Chemistry and Physical Chemistry at the University of Oxford. I also tutor IB, European Baccalaureate and A level students and love sharing my enthusiasm for maths and science to all students. I am a very patient tutor and love working with students to identify any areas they are struggling with and finding new ways to explain difficult concepts. It’s always great to see students' confidence increase and to hear about how my sessions have helped students get more out of their lessons in school or other areas of their university education.

When I’m not teaching, I can often be found swimming, gardening or baking (my personal favourite application of chemistry!).

Tutor Experience

I work full time in education, with over 1000 hours’ experience of teaching chemistry, physics and
mathematics 1:1 or in small groups. Approximately a third was conducted online. I am very
experienced in planning and delivering engaging online sessions, using online whiteboards to work
through problems with students collaboratively and creating a useful resource for students to review
afterwards. I tailor sessions to individual students’ needs and provide a supportive environment to
work together.

For 8 years I have been employed to teach Physical Chemistry and Mathematics for Chemistry to
undergraduate students at the University of Oxford. I plan and deliver college tutorial teaching and
work with students individually. I consistently receive very positive feedback, with students finding
me a supportive and approachable tutor.

I have supported students with projects and dissertations, providing advice on structure and writing
style to ensure clear, concise communication of ideas. Multiple students achieved First Class
Honours in their Masters projects.

I tutor IB and A level students and love to see students' confidence increase and their grades
improve. I am familiar with the differences in content and the intricacies of the different phrasing
required by mark schemes for different exam boards and make this clear to students when going
through past papers. I have worked on many different access and outreach schemes, so have
extensive experience of working with students who have experienced disruption or inadequate
teaching.

I link work from different parts of the course to ensure students have a comprehensive overall
understanding of a subject. My DPhil research was interdisciplinary and I enjoy making links to how
the science and maths taught in school has applications in cutting edge research with real world
applications. I find this makes a subject considerably more interesting and consequently much easier
and more enjoyable to learn!
