I have a PGCE in Secondary English, and a M-ed in Visual Impairment where I studied the impact of teaching social skills to students with visual impairment and autism.
I’m a theatre and dance lover, and I write for Drama and Theatre Magazine (Mark Allen Group)
I’ve recently learned to swim - I think we should always continue to learn!
I am a specialist academic mentor for university students with disabilities.
Experienced in teaching the following:
GCSE and IGCSE English Language and Literature - all boards
IGCSE World Literature
A Level English literature - all boards
GCSE, IGCSE and BTEC Drama
A Level Drama & Theatre
A Level Classical Civilisation
GCSE Classical Civilisation.
I have been an English and Drama teacher since 2003, and have taught in a wide range of settings including state schools, independent and specialist schools. I also have a lot of online teaching experience and this is an area that I particularly enjoy.
I encourage tutoring sessions which are a conversation rather than a lecture. I believe that a successful class is one where the student feels confident enough to make mistakes and to ask questions.
I am calm and patient, and love to have laughter in my sessions. We all learn better when we’re happy and relaxed!
I am particularly good at helping students to raise their grades if they are stuck between two grade boundaries. I can help with confidence building and enjoy tailoring sessions to specific topics that students are struggling with to get the best results.
GCSE/IGCSE English and A Level English: All exam boards
Functional English: Pearson
GCSE/IGCSE and A Level Drama: I have taught all exam boards and have contributed to text books for Edexcel. As an ex Stage Manager I have an excellent knowledge of the technical theatre options.
Only the second lesson with Lucy but my daughter is literally over the moon! Lucy has very quickly identified the issues she was finding tricky and seems to have an excellent strategy to tackle them.
My daughter is really enjoying her lessons with Lucy. She teaches at a perfect pace and is exactly the right balance of fun and focussed.
The class was amazing, we are making good progress I am really happy about how it is going.
Thank you Miss Lucy :)
Miss Lucy is such a helpful teacher, she is patient and is always willing to help, and open to trying new ideas, she is a wonderful teacher and I can't wait to keep working with her, I am confident I will get a really good grade that I am targeting to get in Drama
We highly recommend Lucy as a tutor. She is a dedicated , knowledgeable , patient and flexible. A pleasant and kind person.
Very skilful lositive and encouraging lesson thanks
My daughter has been working with Lucy for a couple of months now. Her grades have shot up, her knowledge of the material and understanding of the marking criteria has improved, but most of all, she loves the sessions they have together. Lucy is patient, understanding of neurodiverse issues, and all round an excellent teacher.
Lucy is an A* Tutor who is incredibly supportive and amazing at bringing out the best in your child. My daughter has grown in confidence and finds Lucy style of teaching easy to understand and has learnt and improved so much in a short period of time. Goes above and beyond:)
Great thanks

I can't believe that I scored so high, but I couldn't have done it without your help. Thank you for being such an excellent tutor this past year to me! It's made all the difference.
(IGCSE Cambridge English Language and English Literature Summer 2024)
We truly believe you had a positive impact on our daughter's learning and her being able to achieve an 8. We will always be incredibly grateful to you, your kind patience and ability to understand her and give her the encouragement she needed to believe in herself. (OCR GCSE English Literature 2023)
Lucy really made my daughter enjoy English Literature. She made the lessons fun whilst imparting all the relevant information for A-level. (OCR English Literature 2022)
Hi Lucy, just wanted to say a huge thank you for your support. I came to you scraping Cs and Ds and we managed to get an A*! So thank you for always working with me and always pushing me up the grade boundaries. Couldn’t have done it without you. (A Level English Literature AQA 2022)
Lucy is a brilliantly creative teacher who fosters great relationships with her students. I can recommend her wholeheartedly.
