Hello! My name is Luke, I am currently a PhD candidate in Criminology with a focus on youth justice and social exclusion, and I am extremely passionate about qualitative research and teaching across a variety of areas.
It's safe to say I have had a varied career so far! Having been a tennis coach and P.E teaching assistant, interesting in sports coaching and learning science, I shifted towards a career in research. After my degrees, I took up a job with YouGov as a data analyst, before entering into my current role as a PhD candidate and teaching assistant at Edge Hill University.
Learning with me will be a collaborative approach where we can develop knowledge together, and hopefully have some good conversation on the way!
I look forward to hearing from you!
I have been a level 2 qualified tennis coach since the age of 17 (now at the ripe age of 26!) which has involved developing teaching and learning strategies for a wide range of players with different needs and levels of performance.
I have worked at an International Boarding school as a pastoral and P.E teaching assistant where I was really able to develop in delivering and designing effective sessions for students aged between 4-18. Supplementing this experience, during my undergraduate degree I have studied advanced pedagogy practicum which has involved developing my understanding of how to create effective environments for learning to take place. During this degree, I provided tutoring and support to undergraduate students on my degree course in a weekly module surrounding study skills and assignment support.
My current job involves the teaching of seminars across level 4, 5, and 6 programmes in the school of Law, Criminology, and Policing. This of course involves delivery of content in addition to assessment support and marking, which is an insight that I believe will benefit your learning with me as we prepare for possible assignments and research projects.
Sport Coaching and Pedagogy
Physical Education (Teaching and Learning)
Advanced Qualitative Research Methods (Study and Methodological Design for Research Projects)
Sociology (Preparation for Level 4-6 Assessments)
Criminology (Criminal Justice System, Theory, Youth Justice, Preparation for Level 4-6 Assessments)
Luke has great subject knowledge; he explained a number of key concepts to me in a number of different ways (e.g. using analogies, visuals, and situational examples). Luke was very conscious of my needs, asking how best I learn so that our classes can be tailored to my preferences. Following my lesson with Luke I am feeling much more confident with my next steps.
Luke is excellent! His help has been a great relief for me, and he has clearly a deep understanding about criminology! He is super proactive and willing to help. I hope to see him back soon and count with his help during my research project! Thank you, Luke! I feel in safe hands now!
Absolute fantastic support and help on the issue of Theoretical Framework of my research.
