I’m a postgraduate researcher at the University of Exeter. Previously, I was a researcher and associate tutor at the University of Warwick, where I taught on a number of modules and sat on the editorial board for a philosophical journal. I’ve been working privately since 2014 and have helped countless students achieve their goals. Philosophy is a collaborative endeavour; it’s a great pleasure for me to explore the big ideas of the last 3,000 years with my students, watching their own philosophical skills develop and grow.
Please do get in touch with any questions or queries and, if you'd like to know more about me, you can read on below.
I am a postgraduate researcher in the Department of Sociology, Philosophy and Anthropology at the University of Exeter, where I am funded by a HASS grant to research the effects of AI technologies on the structure of subjectivity. Previously, I was an associate tutor and postgraduate researcher in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. I am an examiner for AQA and have been teaching AQA A-Level philosophy since 2014. I also provide tuition for OCR and Eduqas courses.
I have a first-class honours degree from the University of York in philosophy, a masters with distinction in social and political theory for the University of Birmingham and I passed my MPhil viva in philosophy at the University of Warwick without corrections.
In my work teaching A-Level philosophy and religious studies I've seen that most students drop marks for AO2, which covers analysis, evaluation and critique. I've developed innovative strategies and techniques for correcting this. I can help you feel confident before your exams and give you exactly the tools you need to reach your full potential.
For university students, I can provide you with the support and feedback you need to significantly improve your grades.

Daniel helped me a lot with my work. I'm in my final year at university and was slightly nervous about how I would do with these 2 essays but I feel a lot more confident that I will do well thanks to his feedback.
I started philosophy this past semester as part of my intercalated year for uni, and I have to say that I've learnt more from Daniel in 2 hours than I have in the months of classes I've sat through, being very confused!
I've been studying a science degree for the past three years, so trying to understand university-level philosophical theory was a whole new paradigm for me. I was worried prior to the session that I would be quizzed on everything I was supposed to know already, or my lack of understanding would be met with disapproval - so I was absolutely blown away by his patience and ability to break everything down for me in an understandable way that was neither patronising nor overwhelming. He went at a comfortable pace for me to write any salient information down, and clearly was very knowledgable in the topics I required help with. I was impressed at how quickly he was able to gauge my 'situation' and thus adapted the lesson and his approach to my needs.
If you require a teacher who seems to have a genuine passion for philosophy, and a wealth of knowledge to complement it, I cannot recommend Daniel enough.

"Daniel was very patient with my brother and extremely knowledgeable in his area of expertise. He was very helpful when reviewing work and gave my brother plenty of room to formulate his own views and would challenge them in a way that didn't discourage but helped him think about how to formulate his arguments in a more sturdy fashion. Where Daniel wasn't sure he was entirely honest that he was unaware of niche topics. This type of integrity is very hard to find in tutors so highly recommend."

As Dan’s student of two years, I would highly recommend him as a philosophy tutor. With Dan’s support, I moved up from D (54%) to A (88%) in AS Ethics and C (63%) to A (100%) in AS Philosophy.
I found lessons very useful in grasping a solid understanding of the content as we explored the material thoroughly and in depth. We talked through the content and I was able to ask questions freely both during and outside of tutorials. This was crucial as I felt comfortable with the content, which is a necessary foundation to form sound arguments and evaluation.
Dan’s inquisitive and engaging style of teaching challenged me every lesson, which was key in my success as I was encouraged to develop my own thoughts, arguments and criticisms. I was encouraged to express my opinions which we then built on and developed to form strong and structured arguments. With practice, I was able to learn to think more philosophically and critically.
Through our tutorial lessons, I was able to learn to write essays specifically targeted at A level standard philosophy and ethics questions. This was an important exam technique as I was able to pick up marks where I could without wasting valuable time in the exam.
Dan is a great tutor for academic progress and support. I was able to contact him via email whenever I had a question or had an essay to be marked. The homework set was geared to consolidate my knowledge and challenge my thinking, and the feedback I got on homework and practice exam questions always pushed me further.
Whether it is the content, evaluation or exam technique you need more work on, Dan will help you to nail it.

"Daniel is a fantastic tutor. As I was wanting to do philosophy at university but hadn't done it at A level, I was looking for someone to discuss philosophy with and improve my critical thinking. I found Daniel online and he was brilliant. He is reliable, well informed, very friendly and likeable, which meant that it was easy for me to build a rapport with him. He encourages you to explore your ideas, offers constructive criticism to help you improve your arguments and is very knowledgeable about all things philosophy related. I think that through my conversations with Daniel, I improved my ability to think philosophically immensely, and this gave me the confidence to think that I could study the subject at university having not done so before. In short, I thoroughly recommend him as a tutor, you won't regret it!"

"My name is Brandon and I had the pleasure of working with Daniel this last year, for help with my Political Philosophy class. When I started the course, I was not able to understand anything. I was convinced I would never be able to understand the heavy philosophy readings we were assigned. I looked online and found Daniel, within a couple weeks of meeting, the readings had become easier and I was able to analyse them a lot better. We worked twice a week and I noticed, as well as my professor, that my critical reviews and test scores greatly improved. Daniel is an amazing tutor because he really teaches you how to analyse the material and breaks it down into different ways to get you to understand it. He is an expert with the material. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for some help in Philosophy"

"Daniel was my tutor for AS and he really helped me. He was really enthusiastic in teaching and still is! His lessons were fun and engaging, it's amazing how much more interesting things are with a good teacher. He also helped me to think more analytically and critically and how to structure my arguments."
