About Me

I am new to spires and am very excited about starting this new journey with you.

I have been a teacher for 17 years, teaching in primary and secondary schools. I love to enthuse young people about English and with my drama background, I love to bring practical elements into all my lessons.

I am a mother of two boys, have a black labrador, which I love to walk and take to the beach. I am part of a soul choir, enjoy going to the theatre regularly and spending time with my family. I love nothing more than to get engrossed in a good book, whilst curled up on the sofa with my dog.

Tutor Experience

Since April 2023, I have been a personal tutor both online and in person. I am currently teaching a year 10 pupil who needs help improve their comprehension understanding and ability to write more creatively. I tutor a pupil who has dyslexia, Irlens, ASD and struggles with inference and comprehension, I also tutor a year 11 grammar school pupil who wants to achieve a grade 8 next summer for their GCSE.

I have worked in comprehensive schools for 7 years of my career, teaching KS3 and KS4 English and drama; in a grammar school for 8 years of my career teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 English and Drama as well as some RE. Recently, for the past 2 years I have been working in primary schools, working with children across KS1 and KS2, helping raise literacy skills. I have worked in schools across Kent and Somerset.

I pride myself on my ability to be versatile and adapt my teaching skills to suit all learners. I have great relationships with my pupils, I'm enthusiastic, fun and engaging in all my lessons. My teaching style is differentiated depending on each learner I teach. I listen to each individual's needs, observe their learning styles and plan my lessons accordingly.

Topic Expertise

I have extensive experience in helping primary school children improve their literary skills, especially after the pandemic, I also help primary school pupils practice for their Kent Test so they can get into a grammar school.

I have been an English secondary school teacher since qualifying in 2007. I've worked in comprehensive schools, high schools and grammar schools, working with pupils ages 11-18. I have taught GCSE English literature and language across AQA, Edexcel and WJEC exam boards, marking coursework, exam papers and have helped many pupils achieve 7-9 grades in both English Lit and Lang at GCSE level.

I have taught GCSE and A Level drama for 9 years, helping pupils with their logs for their devised pieces, understanding how to answer live theatre questions and have an extensive understanding of both GCSE and A Level set texts.
I have been teaching comprehension, poetry, set texts, plays, persuasive writing, formal writing, novels. comparisons and analysis throughout my career. I have experience teaching pupils with additional needs, pupils who want to get into top universities and pupils with social anxiety.

Thank you so much for all the help you have given Steven. It has made a massive difference to his understanding, even in such a short time. He has gone into his English GCSEs feeling so much more confident. You have been so positive with him and he has really enjoyed your lessons.

Excellent support from Rebecca. Will has flourished with Rebeccas guidance and his confidence has increased significantly since we started using Rebecca. Thank you!

- English Literature

I really enjoyed my class. We marked my essay question and she asked me what I wanted to do so it was totally personalised to what I need to practice. I will be sending more essay questions and think our sessions will really help me have a final push towards my GCSE's. I am hopeful it will help me go up a grade. No technical issues.
