I am a Geography teacher (PGCE Secondary Geography) and professional GIS cartographer with over 26 years of industry experience working in mapping, geology and spatial data analysis. Alongside my professional work, I have extensive experience delivering geography and STEM education through schools, workshops and outreach programmes across the UK.
As Director of Mini Map-Makers Global CIC, I have designed and delivered mapping and geography workshops to over 36,000 pupils aged 4–18, helping students develop spatial awareness, map interpretation skills and confidence in geographical thinking. I have also coordinated national geography outreach programmes through the British Cartographic Society.
With my other Mapping company Silver7 Mapping Limited, my background includes working as a GIS specialist and cartographer for government, education, Energy industry and publishing projects (currently working on one book with 8 maps), allowing me to bring real-world examples into lessons. I specialise in helping students understand difficult geographical concepts clearly through visual explanation, mapping and structured support.
I tutor Primary, GCSE and A-level Geography, map skills, coursework support, and GIS-related topics, and I enjoy helping students build confidence as well as improving exam performance.
As you maybe able to tell - I love maps and rocks!
I am have recently completed a PGCE in Secondary Geography and have extensive experience supporting students both in classroom settings and through small-group and individual learning support (Home education groups). During my teacher training placements, I have worked closely with students to reinforce key geographical concepts, support exam preparation, and provide targeted help where students require additional explanation or confidence building.
Alongside my classroom experience, the Mini Map-Makers Global CIC workshops involve adapting content to different learning styles and abilities, supporting individuals within group settings, and developing students’ confidence in map skills and geographical thinking. So important in real day to day living!
My professional background as a GIS specialist and cartographer allows me to support students through clear visual explanations and real-world examples, particularly in areas such as map skills, data interpretation, and physical geography processes. I regularly support students in developing exam technique, structuring extended answers, and improving understanding through step-by-step guidance.
While much of my experience has been face-to-face, the skills developed through classroom teaching and workshop delivery translate directly to online tutoring, where I focus on structured explanation, interaction, and adapting sessions to individual student needs.
I specialise in Geography across Primary, KS3, GCSE and A-level, with particular strength in physical geography, and geographical skills. Human geography has been a great relearning the last two yeas and I am much more confident in the principles and real world examples. My teaching and professional background in GIS, cartography, and geology allows me to support students in developing strong map skills, spatial awareness, and confidence in interpreting geographical data, both in field , on physical maps and on screens.
At Primary and KS3 level, I support students in developing core geographical understanding, including place knowledge, physical and human processes, map reading, fieldwork skills and environmental awareness. I focus on building curiosity and confidence while developing the foundations needed for later exam study.
At GCSE and A-level, I support students with key curriculum topics including tectonic and coastal processes, rivers, weather and climate, ecosystems, urbanisation, resource management and environmental change. I also provide targeted support in geographical skills such as OS map interpretation, data analysis, fieldwork enquiries, and extended exam responses. I can cover all boards.
My professional experience as a GIS specialist and cartographer enables me to bring real-world examples into lessons, helping students understand how geography is applied beyond the classroom. I am particularly experienced in supporting students who find map skills, data interpretation or longer written answers challenging, helping them develop clear structure and exam confidence.
