About Me

I am a highly experienced biologist and university educator with a broad and interdisciplinary background spanning molecular and cellular biology, parasitology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, and ecology. My research has focused on the molecular and evolutionary basis of host–microbe and host–parasite interactions, as well as the role of the microbiota in health and disease. I have a long-standing interest in the One Health approach, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health, and I have applied this framework in my work on host–parasite–microbiota systems.

My passion for biology has been a defining thread throughout my academic and professional journey. Early in my career, I worked at the Natural History Museum in London, where I studied the molecular evolution and ecology of freshwater ciliates. This experience deepened my fascination with the remarkable diversity and adaptability of microbial eukaryotes and laid the groundwork for my later research into the molecular cell biology of microbial parasites that infect humans and animals.

With more than two decades of experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in the biological and biomedical sciences, I am deeply committed to helping learners build strong conceptual understanding, analytical confidence, and the ability to apply knowledge independently. My approach emphasizes clarity, curiosity, and connection—encouraging students not only to master complex topics but to develop the critical thinking and self-learning skills that will serve them well beyond their current studies.

Before beginning lessons, I offer a free introductory session (20-30 minutes) to discuss your goals, current level, and preferred learning style. This session also provides an opportunity to outline course content, establish the desired pace, and ensure a smooth online connection. Together, we can design a personalised and effective learning plan from the very first meeting.

Je peux également donner des cours en français.

Tutor Experience

I began tutoring fellow students during my undergraduate biology studies, where I developed a strong foundation in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, and zoology/ecology. Over the past two decades, I have taught and supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students at university level, including BSc, MSc, MRes, and PhD candidates in biological and biomedical sciences. My teaching and tutoring have covered a wide range of topics—from cell biology, biochemistry, evolution, genetics, and host–parasite interactions to One Health.

I have also mentored students in scientific writing, data analysis, oral presentation, and research project development, and I take great pride in tailoring my approach to meet diverse learning needs and academic goals. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of supporting students from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds, both in the UK and internationally. This experience has enriched my practice and strengthened my commitment to inclusive, empathetic, and globally aware education.

Ultimately, my overarching goal as a tutor is to empower learners to become confident, curious, and effective independent thinkers—capable of taking ownership of their learning journey and applying their knowledge creatively and critically beyond the classroom.

Topic Expertise

I have over 20 years of experience teaching and researching across the biological and biomedical sciences, with expertise in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, genetics, immunology, and evolutionary biology. My work also spans bioinformatics, microbial ecology, and the One Health framework, allowing me to link molecular detail with broader health perspectives.

My teaching style emphasises clarity, integration of concepts, and real-world application. I have particular experience in supporting students to master complex biological systems, prepare confidently for exams, and strengthen their skills in scientific writing, data analysis, and oral presentation, as well as in developing critical thinking. Above all, I aim to make biology accessible, engaging, and relevant to each student’s goals.
