I'm an experimental immunologist with a PhD from UCL and thirteen years of teaching experience. My teaching is structured and visual, and I adapt to each student rather than following a fixed course. I explain mechanisms by drawing them rather than simply describing them - much of the biology that seems impossible to memorise becomes straightforward once a student can see how it works. I ask questions throughout, so students are actively working through the material rather than just listening to an explanation. Students come to me for grades but most also leave with greater confidence and the ability to reason independently through material they have never seen before.
I draw on my experience as a biomedical researcher to take biology education beyond the textbook. My role is to identify where and why a student is struggling, then guide them through the problem until the underlying logic becomes clear. I want my students to reason independently, not simply memorise facts.
My approach is grounded in a strong interest in how students learn. I ask students to explain their thought process, not just provide the correct answer. With university and research students working at an advanced level, I extend this approach to experimental design, critical evaluation of evidence, data interpretation and scientific writing.
I also place great importance on the mentoring side of teaching. Students can struggle because material is difficult, but they can also become overwhelmed or lose confidence. I aim to provide calm, structured support from someone who understands both the subject and the pressures of academic assessment. The goal is to build confidence, understanding and independence.
Alongside my university teaching, I have over 13 years of experience teaching IB Biology across successive IB curricula, including the current 2025 syllabus. I support students throughout the academic cycle, from building strong foundations to preparing for mocks and final examinations. I also work extensively with resit students and Internal Assessments.
Across all of this work, I see tutoring as an academic partnership. Students should feel that they have someone on their side who is invested in helping them understand the subject properly, navigate difficult periods and ultimately become capable of working independently.
My research focuses on immune tolerance: how harmful immune responses can be controlled selectively without compromising protective immunity. Over nine years of research at UCL, the University of Oxford and the Medical University of Vienna, I have worked across regulatory T cell therapy, mixed chimerism and IL-2-based approaches in transplantation, as well as cell-based strategies for inducing tolerance to allergens. Much of this work has been closely integrated with clinical research in kidney, heart and lung transplantation, involving both patient-derived samples and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
I have authored 16 peer-reviewed publications, including seven as first author, with 472 citations (September 2026). Recent work includes studies of chimerism-based tolerance without irradiation in kidney transplantation, published in Science Translational Medicine, and IL-6 blockade in allograft rejection, published in Nature Communications.
This research background underpins my expertise across immunology and immunobiology, human genetics, molecular medicine, cell biology, biochemistry and human physiology. Experimental research at this level demands rigorous understanding of biological mechanisms, critical evaluation of evidence and the ability to connect molecular processes to cellular and physiological outcomes.
I particularly enjoy supervising dissertations and PhD research, where I can contribute to experimental design, conceptual development, interpretation of results and scientific writing. Helping researchers develop a clear scientific argument, make sense of their data and move their work forward is one of the most rewarding aspects of my teaching.
Excellent explanations, presentations and additional materials to talk me through the interactions between the adaptive and innate immune responses
Very helpful
Working with Konstantinos has been great, his feedback has felt specifically tailored to me and helped me not only pinpoint what I did wrong in my work, but also helped me develop my technical understanding and improve my writing style.
Konstantinos has helped me a lot with the discussion part of my dissertation, where we felt it needed a lot more work. Konstantinos has provided simple, constructive feedback to help improve my dissertation. He is very nice and friendly and I've learned so much from his sessions.
Konstantinos has done an amazing job in helping me improve my dissertation, especially the materials and methods and results. Based on his feedback from our previous session and today's session, I've learned a lot about how to improve clarity and simplicity of my dissertation. Thank you so much Konstantinos! :)
Excellent explanations with clear powerpoints to explain information. Good variation between explanation of material and questioning to ensure I understand. May have been a bit slow at the beginning however this improved.
Hello Konstantinos, just wanted to say a big thank you for all of your help. I managed to get 91% in my dissertation and a first overall. I am happily preparing for medical school in September.
