I was born and raised in Warsaw, Poland, and at age 16 left for the UK to study A-Levels as a full academic scholar at one of the top boarding schools. The combination of subjects I took (Music, German, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Polish, and Physics AS) is a reflection of my interests, as I put a lot of emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach both in my own explorations, as well as in my teaching.
I then proceeded to study the Music Tripos at University of Cambridge (Trinity College), and sang in the Choir of Gonville & Caius College. The choral experience has provided me with invaluable musicianship skills, as well as opened my eyes and ears to different musical cultures, improved my strategies of learning music quickly and managing stress, and was overall just absolutely great fun.
After graduating from Cambridge, I returned to Warsaw to pursue a degree in opera singing, and teach the British curricula of music at one of the top international schools in Warsaw. A highlight of my operatic endeavours is the title role in Puccini's 'Suor Angelica', which I performed in April 2022 at the Grand Theatre - Polish National Opera in Warsaw.
I speak English, Polish, Spanish, German, and Italian, and have some working knowledge of French and Russian.
I have 5 years of teaching experience in the capacity of Senior Teacher in Music at one of the top international schools in Poland. I specialise in the written components of AQA curricula of A-Level and GCSE Music. I have also authored and taught the syllabus for Musical Culture, a compulsory general-knowledge subject taught in conjunction with other Humanities across Years 10 and 11. I have experience teaching and tutoring in stationary mode as well as online, with class sizes ranging from 1 to 12 students. All my students so far have achieved grades ranging from A*-A at A-Level and 9-8 at GCSE, and have fulfilled their top-choice university offers.
My classes are discussion-based and I pride myself in instilling intellectual curiosity in my students, with whom we are often able to cover topics from outside the core curriculum, while maintaining high academic standards. A recent highlight includes a testimony from a former student of mine who excelled in an essay assignment at one of the top conservatoires in London and credited me with having taught her the skills she was able to use.
I love teaching: during the lessons I often find I can completely switch off from the outside world and focus entirely on the discussions with my students or inventing ways of leading them on to understand a concept if they haven't yet grasped it. I am very proud of the relationships I have developed with my students so far, especially those who decided to continue Music as an A-Level subject, having been taught by me at GCSE.
I specialise in teaching the written components of the AQA curricula of Music A-Level and GCSE, as well as advising students on university preparation and Oxbridge interviews. I can also help with the ABRSM theory curriculum.
As a classical singer, I have both solo and choral experience.
I am also happy to help with all sorts of writing assignments as well as foreign languages.
My particular musical interests lie in opera, choral music, 20th century art music, representations of gender in music, feminist musicology, and Polish musical tradition.
I had some lessons before I sat my music A level and it has massively helped me to become more confident and much better at this subject. I definitely would not have done as well if it was not for this, thank you!
My daughter has highly appreciated the way that Aleksandra explain concepts
The students were really happy with the quality of the lesson, the tutor's subject knowledge and her ability to explain challenging ideas. The students and their teacher, highly recommend Aleksandra and the platform generally. Thank you for providing the support they urgently needed before their exam.
Again, this was a very successful lesson. The students and I are very grateful that Aleksandra was able to fit in a workshop just before their final exam. They said they felt much better prepared and I was impressed with Aleksandra's subject knowledge. She was also very positive, kind and reactive tutor, able to read the students' and tailor the session for their needs. They felt listened to. Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you.
Very informative and useful lesson.
very insightful and helpful in creating the next draft
I came to Aleksandra 1 month before sitting my Polish A-level having done nothing apart from reading a part of one Polish book, in just a few short lessons, I felt comfortable in knowing how to approach all three papers. She has saved me many hours of independent research I would have had to of done which allowed me to focus more on my other subjects while still doing well in my Polish.
I absolutely would recommend.
Very helpful!
"Thank you so much for all the help and support you’ve given my daughter! You’ve been such an amazing tutor to her, she really feels far more confident about everything. I’m happy she feels that she doesn’t need another lesson but thank you for saying she can contact you if she changes her mind. It was great working with you and I wish you all the very best going forward." - statement from a parent of a Y13 Music A-Level student I worked with for a few weeks before the final exam
