I am currently completing my PhD in Political Science at the London School of Economics, examining how digital technology influences human behaviour. I love making sense of complex problems, identifying solutions, and communicating my findings. My research identifies and frames emerging policy issues - such as the impact of social media design on political discourse - in ways that offer practical, data-informed solutions. I have been awarded external funding on the strength of my study proposals and their relevance to ‘real-world’ applications.
Through the application of a wide range of theoretical, experimental, computational, and statistical techniques, I produce robust insights which inform concrete recommendations. I’m comfortable with diverse methodological approaches such as quantitative text analysis, machine learning, and social network analysis, alongside randomised control trials and surveys. I regularly use R and Python, and have basic knowledge of SQL and Tableau.
With a professional background in both traditional and social media, I have a proven track record of communicating complex topics in a clear and compelling manner to a range of audiences. I have appeared on ITV News at Ten, spoken on various podcasts, written blogs for non-specialist audiences, and presented papers at international conferences.
I currently provide one-to-one tutoring in A-level Politics, Economics, and Sociology on the AQA, Edexcel, and OCR exam boards. Over the last three years, I’ve also taught Undergraduate and Masters students across three different politics courses at LSE.
This has included the first-year module GV101: Introduction to Political Science, where I was twice awarded the LSE Teaching Award. GV101 is a comparative politics course which examines the key debates in political science from a worldwide perspective, using examples from many different countries and time periods. One of its core methods of assessment, alongside an in-person exam, is writing an argumentative essay. My experience in helping students improve their essay writing skills through constructive feedback has been invaluable in driving grade improvement.
I'm an empathetic listener and I strive to tailor each individual lesson to the student's goals. I always spend time at the start of a tutoring relationship establishing a relationship and getting to know exactly what a student struggles with - but also what motivates them. I always aim to make my lessons engaging and fun; in my experience, this is the best way to learn.
Having been either studying or working professionally in the field of politics and social sciences for the past 25 years, I take pride in drawing upon my wealth of experience to support struggling students. I also volunteer with Merton Saints BMX Club, where I help run sessions for young people from lower-income areas or with SEND needs. This has developed my ability to connect with children from a range of backgrounds and help them overcome their own individual challenges.
