About Me
My name is Kevin Lock and I am a passionate Geography Teacher.
As an experineced teacher and examiner. I have taught Geography for over 22 years since qualifying in the UK in 1999.
I have worked with the IB as an examiner on Paper 3, IA and the Extended Essays. This has given me a unique insight into the keys to success for the IB Geography course.
I have worked as an Assistant Headteacher in London and been a Head of Humanities and Head of Geography, in both London and international schools.
Tutor Experience
I am very flexible in the approach used during our lessons. Whether it is to focus on exam skills and deconstructing exam questions, reviewing syllabus knowledge and doing quick checks to ascertain whether there are gaps, or using past exam papers to practise before an important test o mock exam. Lessons normally last an hour, but I can adjust this according to your needs.
As well as being an experinced teacher, I have tutored students online and face to face in a range of locations and time zones from China, Athens, Switzerland and the USA.
The resources and revision packs provided will be sent before the lesson begins to ensure we maximise our time. I allow plenty of opportunities for students to engage in the learning as active participants to both ensure a memorable learning experience and to formatively check understanding.
I am fully CRB checked.
Topic Expertise
My main areas of expertise are preparing students for exams at IB and GCSE level. I have worked with students aiming for Level 7 grades and for Oxbridge exam preparation in Geography.
I have tutored pupils in Geography at all levels, but also ESS at IB. I have also helped students with Social and cultural Anthropology.
I also assist students in completing their coursework assignments at IB level for both Geography and ESS

Great lesson with Kevin. Today we started going through Paper 3 essay questions which consist of both 12 markers and 16 markers. I thought that Kevin did a great job in explaining the formatting and structure for these longer essay questions as they are somewhat similar to regular 10 markers but differ in structure and Kevin explained it all clearly to ensure my understanding of it as it was my first time encountering these questions.

Great class with Kevin. There was a slight technical issue at the start due to audio difficulties on my end however, Kevin was completely understanding and we resolved the issue and continued with the class. Today, we went through some essay questions that have previously been seen in Paper 2 exams. Whenever I got stuck/confused on a question Kevin would give little hints or ideas to push me in the right direction. Moreover, on questions that I did not know Kevin would ensure that I understood what the question was asking by explaining key terms and processes. At the end of the lesson, Kevin checked again what I would like to cover next being open as well as making sure it was tailored to my needs.

Kevin is by far one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. I’ve been struggling with my IA and with answering the questions according to what the markscheme was asking. I would, most of the times, not give a further explanation and that would jeopardized my grade.
