I have a child-centered approach to my teaching. I motivate my students to develop a growth mindset, where failing at something does not equate to failure. I encourage all students to fulfill their potential and build their confidence and self-esteem. Raising aspirations and inspiring young people to achieve and be more than they ever imagined is key to being a successful teacher. Our role as educational professionals is to model resilience and inspire students toward excellence in a culture of respect. It is essential to inspire young people to fulfill their dreams and make a difference in the world, not just in the future but in the here and now.

Religious Education Trainee Teacher
Outline
Working as part of a dedicated team of secondary school teachers at a large secondary school in Sunderland. I was responsible for teaching Religious Education and PSHE to students aged between 11-16, ultimately preparing them for their GCSE examinations. I gained some experience teaching KS3 English and KS5 Sociology.
Key Responsibilities
• Delivered interesting and engaging RE and PSHE lessons to a wide range of learning abilities in preparation for GCSE examinations.
• Developed academically challenging and engaging lesson plans, encouraging student engagement while ensuring curriculum standards were upheld.
• Maintain an accurate record of student progress, setting attainable but challenging goals and enabling accurate examination guide predictions for upcoming GCSE examinations.
• Review and mark student work fairly, giving appropriate and clear feedback.
• Communicate student progress both directly with the student and with their parents/carers.
• Responsible for a class/form for each school year, working closely with those students to support them through any academic or personal difficulties.
• Manage student behaviour in line with the school’s policies and procedures, ensuring student behaviour remains in line with the behaviour policy and taking appropriate disciplinary actions.
• Complete continued professional development including undergoing regular observations, attending regular training, and remaining up to date with new resources and teaching methods.
My training year teaching RE was enriching as I explored a range of beliefs, practices, and worldviews with my students and stretch them to achieve their full potential as I aim to develop the whole person. Religious Education is one of the most significant areas of the curriculum that contributes to students’ understanding of the world. Religious Education equips students to consider and develop their beliefs and worldviews whilst developing respect and tolerance for the views of others, I aim to provide a positive, safe, and stimulating experience that promotes the students’ social and moral development. Alongside this, my students can expand their critical thinking, reasoning, and analytical skills.
The topics in RE that I have taught are:
KS3:
• The Big Story of the Bible
• The Trinity and how this belief impacts a Christian’s life
• The Gospel and exploring what is so radical about Jesus
• The Incarnation and why Christians believe Jesus is God on earth
• Judaism and whether it would be challenging to be a Jewish teenager in the UK
• Sikhism and whether it would be challenging to be a Sikh teenager in the UK
• Prophethood and what it means to be a Prophet
• Salvation and what it means to save the world
• What Christians believe about the Kingdom of God and life after death.
KS4:
• Religion and Life
• Religion, Relationships and Families
• Religion, Crime and Punishment
• Religion, Peace and Conflict
• Religion, Human Rights and Social Justice
• Christian Beliefs and Teachings
• Christian Practices.
During my initial teacher training year, I delivered Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lessons that have explored themes found in LLW and PSD. The PSHE lessons that I have delivered have explored topics surrounding employability and personal development, such as:
• The impact of globalisation on employment
• Recruitment and selection processes
• The work environment
• Diversity, social inclusion, rights and responsibilities.
To enhance my teaching of PSHE, I have attended two Secondary Citizenship NASBTT webinars that explored the educational purpose of Citizenship in the curriculum and how to teach controversial issues. I firmly believe that LLW and PSD are vital to have in the curriculum.
