PhD Scientist | Biomedical Sciences & Biochemistry | Dissertation Support | GAMSAT | GRE Quant
I am a PhD scientist and experienced university educator with over 10 years of teaching and academic mentoring experience. I help university students and exam candidates move beyond memorising content to confidently apply concepts, solve unfamiliar problems and develop effective strategies for exams and research projects.
My tutoring focuses on four main areas:
- Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry & Chemistry
I support undergraduate and postgraduate students with biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical sciences and university-level chemistry. My approach is particularly useful when you understand the basic theory but struggle to apply it to exam questions, quantitative problems or unfamiliar scenarios. Topics I regularly teach include metabolism, enzyme kinetics, protein structure and function, molecular biology, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, organic chemistry and spectroscopy.
- Biomedical Dissertation & Research Support
- GAMSAT Section III
- GRE Quantitative Reasoning

About Me

My academic journey began in biotechnology engineering before my interest in molecular science led me towards chemistry and biochemistry, ultimately completing a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Since then, my career has combined three things I particularly enjoy: teaching, scientific research and solving difficult problems. I have contributed to more than 50 scientific publications and over 30 research projects, ranging from fundamental chemistry and biomedical research to molecular modelling, data analysis and applications of artificial intelligence in the life sciences.

These experiences strongly influence the way I teach. I am much more interested in helping a student understand why an approach works than in asking them to memorise another formula or pathway. I use Socratic questioning and problem-based learning to develop the reasoning skills students need to solve problems independently.

Outside teaching and research, I enjoy reading about science and history, exploring developments in artificial intelligence, writing, and spending time in nature. Curiosity has been a constant throughout my own education, and it is something I try to encourage in my students as well.

Tutor Experience

My tutoring focuses on four main areas:
Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry & Chemistry

- Biomedical Dissertation & Research Support
I provide academic coaching throughout the dissertation process, from developing a focused research question and understanding research methodology to data analysis, interpretation and constructing a clear scientific argument. I can also support systematic reviews, literature analysis, statistics, scientific figures and the use of R or Python for research data. My role is to help you understand and confidently carry out your own research and communicate it effectively.
- GAMSAT Section III
GAMSAT Section III is fundamentally a reasoning test rather than a test of science recall. I help candidates learn how to extract information from unfamiliar scientific passages, interpret graphs and experimental data, recognise the underlying concepts and develop efficient problem-solving strategies under time pressure. Sessions are tailored around your specific weaknesses rather than simply revising large amounts of science content.
- GRE Quantitative Reasoning
I help GRE candidates strengthen the reasoning and strategy behind Quantitative Reasoning, particularly students who know the underlying mathematics but struggle with unfamiliar question formats, timing or selecting the fastest solution method. We work through problems interactively, identifying recurring patterns, common traps and efficient approaches that can be applied independently on exam day.

Qualifications

I hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, MD, US, where my research focused on nanotechnology, specifically using DNA to create novel materials. This work involved applying classical biochemistry techniques and several spectroscopic methods.

I also have a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador, which provided a strong liberal arts education with a solid foundation in chemistry, mathematics, and physics.

Additionally, my background in Biotechnology Engineering ignited my passion for genetics, molecular biology, immunology, and microbiology.
