About Me

My name is TJ and I am a dedicated mathematics tutor with a Master’s degree in Economics and a professional background in the energy and investment sectors. My career in these fast-paced industries allows me to bring a unique, real-world perspective to the classroom, showing students how mathematical concepts are applied in the real world and making sure they understand the story behind the question. In my company, I connect advise businesses and connect investors to investment opportunities.

Tutor Experience

With over 10 years of experience tutoring learners of all ages, I have developed a versatile teaching style that adapts to the individual needs of each student. I am highly proficient in the requirements of the major UK examination boards, including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR. Whether you are preparing for IGCSEs, GCSEs, A-Levels, or simply looking to improve your numeracy skills, I provide the targeted support needed to achieve top marks.

I typically conduct focused one-hour classes designed to maximize retention without overwhelming the learner.

Techniques:

I often utilise the Feynman Technique, encouraging students to explain concepts back to me in their own words to truly cement their understanding.

Additionally I use a scaffolded approach—starting with simple, familiar examples that students are likely to understand and then gradually increasing the difficulty. Once we find the stumbling block of their current knowledge, I work together with them to bridge the gaps and build lasting confidence.

To test their understanding, I ask students to design and solve their own questions. Moving from solving a problem to creating one proves they deeply understand the core concept and can think critically about the topic.

Topic Expertise

Economics: Expert delivery of AQA and Edexcel (A & B) specifications at A-Level. Focus on micro/macroeconomic theory, quantitative skills, and exam technique for high-mark essays.

Mathematics: Strong knowledge of KS1–KS5 curricula. Specialist in GCSE/iGCSE (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC) and A-Level (Pure Mathematics). Proven track record in bridging the gap between Foundation and Higher tiers.

Spanish: Deep familiarity with the updated GCSE 9-1 thematic lenses (Identity, International Interest, etc.) across all major UK exam boards.

Client Reviews

TJ has been an excellent source of support and encouragement for my daughter. Her confidence in maths has increased significantly and after only a few weeks there are tangible results; she has added 20 percent to her recent maths exam in comparison to previous assessments this year. I am extremely happy with the lessons; the content is pitched perfectly and offers the right balance of challenge and support.
