About Me
My name is Ayoade, raised between Lagos, Nigeria and London, now living and working in London as a comedy writer and occasional tutor. I've had an unusual professional journey over the past decade - working as a brand strategist to drive growth for brands like M&S, ASOS and Pizza Express, and also writing and performing comedy, the most recent credit being a commission from Channel 4 to create my own short. During all this, I've kept tutoring University students in Politics, focusing specifically on Comparative Politics and Political Economy, and helping students structure, research and write dissertations and essays.
Tutor Experience
I've tutored a variety of subjects, from English Language & Literature to Politics, History and Political Philosophy, all the way from GCSE to undergraduate level, in Politics, History and Economics degrees at University College London, London School of Economics, King's College London, and New York University to name a few. I take a hybrid approach to lessons, responding to individual students needs, what your syllabus of course material demands, and the deadlines or deliverables you're working towards. I focus on approaching learning actively, and critically, and not memorising, but understanding and applying. Our lessons will mostly be discussion-led, where I lay the groundwork for evaluating the topic, and we then assess your understanding together. Where essays and dissertations are concerned, I start by going through course materials and assessment criteria, and then a process of secondary research, conceptualisation, and referencing that will guide your writing process. I then go through an editing process that unpicks your thesis to get to a final essay that can withstand a rigorous assessment once submitted.
