About Me

I have been a private tutor for almost 6 years, focusing primarily on Criminology and English as a Foreign Language. Alongside tutoring, I have been a humanitarian aid volunteer in different parts of the world, and have recently started a carer supporting unaccompanied asylum seekers.

I hold a MPhil in Criminological Research from the University of Cambridge, which was fully funded by the Cambridge Trust scholarship based on educational merit. I also hold a BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice with a Year in Professional Practice from the University of Kent, where I obtained four awards for academic excellence. In addition, I hold a Level 5 TEFL Certificate.

Outside of work, I love to travel. I've traveled to 50 countries across 4 continents and seen all seven wonders of the world. I love reading, cooking, scuba diving, yoga and hiking. I also love to hang out with my friends on the weekend and go to music festivals from time to time.

Overall, I'm energetic, fun and professional, which I think is what has enabled me to retain a high volume of students that have proceeded to achieve their target grades. My aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible, while bringing enjoyment and success to your studies.

Tutor Experience

I am an experienced educator and tutor with a proven record of supporting over 150 students across primary, secondary, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. My core specialisms include academic writing, with subject expertise in Criminology, Social Sciences, Qualitative Research Methods, and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). My teaching style is student-centred, culturally responsive, and goal-oriented, grounded in a trauma-informed, research-led pedagogy that adapts to individual needs.

In Criminology and Social Sciences, I have tutored 52 students, primarily within UK university contexts. I support learners in developing conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and academic writing skills tailored to their level and research focus. At undergraduate level, I’ve worked with 25 students on essay structure, dissertation planning, criminological theory, policy analysis, policing, probation, youth justice, and trauma-informed care. At postgraduate level, I’ve supported 15 students in advanced writing, qualitative research design, and topics such as human trafficking, decolonising criminology, and global violence.

In EFL, I’ve taught over 100 students across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, both in-person and online. My learners range from primary school children to adult professionals preparing for academic and immigration pathways. I hold a Level 5 TEFL Certificate and specialize in exam preparation (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge FCE, SATs), public speaking, and creative writing. I’ve worked with students in-person in Honduras, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Colombia, and the UK.

I use visual aids, scaffolded worksheets, and real-life scenarios to build fluency and confidence. Through case studies and policy documents, I help learners apply concepts meaningfully across academic and practical contexts, fostering clarity, coherence, and critical engagement in every session.

Testimonials

I was completely overwhelmed when I started university and I was struggling to get anything higher than a 2:2. Lauren explained the writing process in a way that was simple and easy to understand and gave me some important tips. I took 10 classes with her in total and just received my first 1st! Would highly recommend.

Lauren is honestly one of the best tutors I’ve ever had. I was super nervous about improving my English, especially for the TOEFL, but she made everything feel doable. Her lessons are fun, clear, and really well structured. She uses loads of visuals and examples that actually make sense, and she’s great at explaining grammar without making it boring.

Lauren is amazing! She made learning English fun and easy, and helped me feel confident speaking and writing. I passed my exam thanks to her support!

Lauren made essay writing way less stressful. She helped me figure out how to plan properly, structure my ideas, and actually make my arguments clear. Her feedback was helpful and easy to follow, and she always explained things in a way that made sense. I ended up doing way better than I expected—she’s brilliant.
