I have a first class honours degree in French and Italian, a PGCE and I have lived in both France (Montpellier) and Italy (Arezzo). I am a Francophile at heart, passionate about the French language and culture, especially French Impressionism and New Wave cinema. However being married to Sicilian I also adore Italian food, history and architecture. 5 years ago I took my GCSE Spanish and A-Level from scratch obtaining A* grades, which helped me to put myself in my student's shoes and learn how to achieve top marks in the examinations. In my free time I enjoy travelling to France, Italy and Spain, keeping fit, sketching, spending time with friends and family and volunteer work.
I am dedicated and passionate teacher of French with over 20 years’ experience teaching French A Level, GCSE and Key Stage 3 French at James Allen's Girls' School, as well as Key stage 3 Spanish and Italian. Throughout my career I have consistently achieved A and A* grades for my pupils. I have also conducted and marked many public examinations and trained PGCE students to become great teachers. I have tutored privately online and in person to individuals and groups, children, teenagers and adults. I prepare lessons tailored to the individual with a variety of fast paced, enjoyable activities to keep pupils engaged and ensure they progress quickly. I use the latest authentic audio visual resources to accelerate learning and encourage spontaneous language use throughout the lesson. I ensure my students have all the vocabulary, grammatical structures, speaking, writing, listening and reading skills necessary for success.
At GCSE and A-Level I do lots of practice examination style questions with my pupils to build their confidence and ensure they master the technique under the pressure of examinations. At Key Stage 3 I help pupils to progress quickly and to use the language spontaneously in lessons. I love to incorporate culture into my lessons at all levels, including Art, Literature, Music, History, Cinema, Gastronomy and more. I encourage students to develop a love for the language and authentic pronunciation by listening to podcasts, new channels, series or even influencers online. I also incorporate fun learning tools such as Quizlet, blooket, linguascope and rockalingua into our lessons and for homework.
