**New to Spires**
In 2010 I retrained to be a teacher, specialising in secondary science. After my NQT post as a science teacher, where I also taught maths, I have worked as a lead teacher/head of physics, with particular responsibility for A level teaching. My line management experience has helped me to develop a coaching approach with my students, ensuring that they have both the motivation and the necessary skills to progress. My specialist areas in the subject are particle physics and practical physics. I also tutor students for A level, GCSE and 11+.

In 2010 I retrained to be a teacher, specialising in Secondary Science. After my NQT post as a Science Teacher, where I also taught Maths, I have worked as a Lead Teacher or Head of Physics, with particular responsibility for delivering high quality ‘A’ level teaching. This has been both on a permanent and on a freelance basis.
My past commercial line management experience in Marketing has helped me to develop a coaching approach with my students, ensuring that they acquire the subject knowledge, motivation and necessary skills to progress. My specialist areas in the subject are in Particle Physics and practical work. In doing this, I have built excellent working relationships with students, teachers (both within the department, across the school, and in other schools) and with parents alike.
I have a very good network within the Physics community: I was an early adopter of the Isaac Physics programme, which was developed by Cambridge University and the Department of Education. The aim of this programme was to raise attainment in Physics and encourage students to study STEM subjects post-18. As part of this, I have attended summer symposia at Cambridge in 3 out of 4 of the past years. This has put me in contact with senior academics at Cambridge and a network of over 200 educators in secondary schools across the country; a community that I was personally responsible for establishing, and which drives multiple areas of best practice in the Teaching and Learning of Physics.

Mark has been a great support for our son in year 11 GCSE maths. His clear communication and flexible approach have really helped him engage with the subject and make good improvements. Would highly recommend.

Mark has been tutoring our son for A level physics this year. It’s the only subject that he got an A for in his recent mocks! Mark is helpful and encouraging, and has been working on exam technique and focus. Would definitely recommend!

We cannot thank Mark Nikitas enough for the commitment and hard work he put in to achieve my son passing GCSE Maths. My son has always struggled with Maths and got told by his teachers he would not pass. With being referred to mark, he really pushed my son and taught him everything he needed to know to make him pass. If anyone else is in the same boat with their child, I really recommend Mark.

My daughter lacked confidence in Maths and for the first year of GSCE was doing ok but I knew with some extra practice, guidance and patience she would be able to not just acheive more but feel more confident in her own ability. Mark really helped her by taking time to explain things that she was struggling to grasp or just hadn't had enough time in class with the teacher to fully practice and understand. Our tutoring was in person and my daughter was moved up sets in her maths fairly quickly. We also then added some science tutoring from Mark as we moved towards GCSE - an extra bonus. I highly recommend Mark - he has a patient and engaging manner and was just what we needed.
