I take an eccentric approach to maths and French: I have rarely had a clear direction (other than optimising my grades) and this has led me into the most inapplicable realms of pure maths and to moving to France. I have taken courses in the history of mathematics, programming, and German because the more that I follow my curiosity, the more motivated I feel.
On graduating, I was hired as a credit risk analyst in a financial services company and I hope to develop a crash course into programming, data analysis, and how to create documents and presentation for the finance industry now that I have made tutoring my full-time job.
I am bubbly and light-hearted in my tutoring sessions and I like to construct a plan-of-action with my students so that we can adapt their studies to suit them and be sure that we are working at an effective pace. I like my tutees to build confidence, more than anything else.
Some random facts about me, to get to know me better: my greatest extra-curricular passion is philosophy, I can do the splits, and I am a big fan of rock and jazz music.
Students enjoy my encouraging yet driven classes and they feel confident going into their exams due to my linear teaching style. Less-confident students prefer me to strip their course down to the basics but top-achievers come to me for experience-based advice on how to achieve the top grades, find the best study resources, find gaps in their knowledge, and ensure the marks that they deserve. I always work as hard as my students do and I provide a summary of the content covered and relevant practise questions to help my students organise their work and ensure they get the most out of my sessions.
I began volunteering as an economics tutor with Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative during the pandemic and have been tutoring ever since. I have a profound understanding of mathematics, having achieved a first at Bristol University alongside three awards for academic achievement (including one of two highest grades in the year) and regularly writing articles for howtosurviveamathsdegree.com. I have led classes on pure mathematics at undergraduate level and have tutored at GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate.
I am fluent in French, having taken classes at Sorbonne University, Paris, and I spend half of my time living in France with my partner. As a result, I have an impressive understanding of both formal and conversational French, as well as French culture. I have tutored GCSE French but university-level students tend to prefer relaxed oral practise sessions involving cultural advice before their semesters abroad.
Mathematics
I have achieved top grades in every level of mathematics up to undergraduate and have a particular interest in pure mathematics. I have experience with the AQA and Eduqas GCSE and A-Level syllabuses and would be confident teaching these or adapting to any other UK syllabus for GCSE or A-Level.
French
I achieved a level B2 at Sorbonne Universite but have since improved my ability furthermore with time spent in France and constant practise. Having studied in France, I feel confident with both formal and casual French. I have before adhered to AQA's A-Level and GCSE syllabuses for French and would feel confident adapting to other syllabuses. I enjoy providing casual speaking practise and cultural advice for undergraduates before their semester abroad.
