I am an experienced tutor who has successfully worked with students on exam preparation, dissertation and essay writing, and university and scholarship applications. My degrees are in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies from SOAS University, Law from NYU School of Law and in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford. My expertise is in Global Politics, Philosophy, Law, International Development, Gender and any intersections of these subjects. I also have extensive experience in African and Middle Eastern politics both academically and professionally.
My professional experience spans multiple continents, and includes work in international development, global risk analysis, corporate law and human rights law. I have taught at both secondary school and university levels. As a tutor, I have successfully worked with students to produce essays, and masters and undergraduate dissertations well beyond their predicted grades.
I have an attentive and caring approach to the individual needs of students and their families.
I am a lecturer in Comparative and International Law at SOAS and have previously taught masters level courses in Gender and Global Politics, Gender in the Middle East, Human Rights Law, International Relations and International Law. I have extensive experience designing and delivering teaching materials, seminars and lectures on these subjects as well as marking undergraduate and post-graduate essays and dissertations. This experience informs my work as a tutor, as I have a thorough understanding the issues that can hold students back at these levels.
I have over five years of experience as a tutor working with undergraduate and masters students. This includes 2000 hours working with students on essays and dissertations in a diverse range of subjects. The majority of my students have gone on to achieve over and above their predicted grades. My approach includes explicit focus on the skills necessary to succeed in academic writing, including critical analysis and producing a structured and persuasive argument.
Finally, I have worked with numerous students aiming for admission at top UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. This includes helping students decide which course, university and college would be the best fit for them, working on achieving top marks in the TSA and LNAT and assisting with interview preparation. I use materials I have designed using the years of experience working with students to achieve their goals.
My areas of expertise include:
Continental Philosophy
Epistemology
Metaphysics
Ethics

"Suraiya is a great tutor! Suraiya was very helpful in guiding me through writing my dissertation, providing invaluable advice for researching, structuring and writing. I found the process very rewarding and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking expert help in thesis writing on the topics of philosophy and politics."
Third Year International Relations Student, 2024
"I received my dissertation grade today and it was a first class!!!! I just wanted to thank you for all your help. Without you, I’m not sure where I would’ve been as you helped me push myself academically to make it an amazing piece of work!"
Third Year Politics and Gender Studies Student, 2024
"I graduated ...with an upper second-class honour. It was no small feat, and I attribute part of that achievement to the help you gave me. My final year at university was incredibly stressful, and I faced a lot of anxiety and pressure, but your guidance with some of my work helped alleviate much of that. I received [first class marks in the modules we worked on together]. Overall, I’m very pleased with my results."
