I left school at 16 not knowing really what I wanted to do. I was a top achiever at school but didn't want to carry on with education. I relished the prospect of gaining experience - turning down a career as an Architect to pursue a post in Banking.
Following a spell as a Trainee Accountant/Stock Controller at a food processing company I secured a position as Amusement Machine Controller for a local brewery. The company had faith in me and funded my part time studies to achieve a BA in Business Studies.
Due to the hospitality and leisure industry changing I decided to leave the sector and undertake a teaching qualification at the University of Bolton which I completed in 1996. I could not initially secure a teaching post so set up my first business - a mobile games hire company renting video and PC games to customers. I also spent 12 months, which was a real eye opener, in a commission-based sales role selling advertising for a company that ran a discount scheme with businesses for the benefit of NHS staff.
Towards the end of the 90's I secured my first lecturing position at a local college and started my career in education - and the rest as they say is history!
I am a firm believer in self-development, education and grasping all opportunities that come your way. I have a real passion for writing which I have mainly used for the benefit of developing learners in education by developing learning programmes, workshops, compiling assessments and exams and writing articles in newspapers and journals.
In my spare time I love going to concerts (and listening to music), the theatre and cinema. For my sins I am an avid Blackburn Rovers fan - well someone has to support them!
I have successfully designed and delivered a range of undergraduate and postgraduate business programmes for Leeds Beckett University, University of Derby, University of Chester, Tameside College, Runshaw Business School and Blackburn College.
Courses I have taught on and been a course tutor for include Foundation degree in Business and Finance, Foundation degree in Retail Management, BA Business and Management, BA Business Studies, MSc Supply Chain Management and Master of Business Administration.
Since becoming a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Senior Examiner in 2006 I have delivered a range of CIPS training modules at levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 for a range of private training providers. Courses I have taught on include Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply. I have worked with a broad range of satisfied clients including high profile names such as MoD, BAE Systems, Boots plc, Jaguar Land Rover, Citibank, NHS, Marks and Spencer and Scottish Enterprise.
2 students I taught on the CIPS programme in 2015 and 2017 won the Advanced Diploma Award (which celebrates the student who achieves the best overall results globally for the Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply).
My supportive and charismatic teaching style has opened up many opportunities in education to teach from level 2 to postgraduate levels for UK and International students (including professional studies including CIPS, CMI, CIMA, ILM, CIPD). My commitment to enhancing the learning experience has led to increased enrolment numbers, reapproval of centre of excellence status from CIPS and high pass rates for students (with many achieving distinctions).
