I have enjoyed using my degrees in English (Trinity Hall, Cambridge) and Law (City University, London) to help so many students achieve their grade ambitions over the past 11 years. The several thousand hours of teaching has both solidified my own education as well as taught me a far richer variety of topics and skills than could be learned in university alone. I am constantly seeking greater levels of understanding and the means to communicate these in the simplest terms. I draw energy from seeing students develop their confidence, their analytical skills, their writing, and their grasp of a subject, and using this to achieve the grade they want.
My approach is student-led. I establish a plan early on, tailored to the student and focused entirely on what they want to achieve. I do not lecture at students, but ask a great deal of questions to ensure understanding and engagement with the material and make them active participants in their learning. Writing ability - in both exams and coursework - is also key, and much time will be spent reviewing written work and devising strategies to make essays clearer, more analytical, more authoritative, and more of a pleasure to read.
I am flexible according to tight deadlines and students' commitments.
Over the past 11 years I have spent several thousand hours privately tutoring students in a variety of subjects from GCSE to Degree level. For the past 5 years, I have specialised in teaching undergraduates (and university applicants) Law and English Literature. Working with so many students enables me to swiftly spot common issues and address them through tried and tested techniques to make their grade ambitions achievable - and the process of getting there enjoyable. Much attention is focused on building analytical skills, and turning those insights into coherent and structured plans for essays and problem questions.
