I have been determined to become an academic since an early age, making the study of history in general and the middle ages in particular my main pursuit. Since philosophy asks many of the same questions that history does I was soon drawn to it and other related disciplines and I can now boast a broad field of interest, including not only history, but also theology, literature, political philosophy and anthropology. I hope to apply this interdisciplinary approach embarking on a PhD on medieval political culture in the 12-13th centuries as examined through rebellion of heirs apparent against their fathers in systems of primogeniture, for which I am gathering material and funds.
I have a been moderating and participating in debates throughout high school and university, with topics ranging from history and philosophy, through culture and art, to politics and economics. Since graduating I published two articles on medieval history, translated and edited a collection of essays on theory of education and recently presented my research at the Glasgow-St. Andrews Papacy and Periphery conference. My current pet project is the translation of Alexander White's Holocaust memoirs, for which I have already found a willing publisher.
Having been brought up in Poland I retain fluency in Polish and knowledge of Polish culture. I am also an appreciator of the Russian civilisational project, being in my second decade of learning the language. I have also picked up a working knowledge of Latin which I applied extensively when reading sources for my masters' thesis. Recognising that a lot of unique, relevant historiography pertaining to state formation and medieval state theory has been written in German I have started learning it, as of yet not to any spectacular effect.
I am most happy when reading about my subject or the human condition more generally, listening to Chopin, Bartok, or running.
I have been tutoring since my high school years when I taught English and Mathematics to younger pupils. Later at university I became involved in supporting prospective students in their applications process as part of Project Access. Upon graduation in 2020 tutoring became my main source of income and as of 2021 I support myself fully teaching the humanities. My area of expertise are the Oxbridge admissions tests (HAT and HAA) which I teach in one-on-one sessions as well as during school events. Over the past five years I have also supported approximately one hundred people in their statement-writing process. Most of my clients have been students of finance, economics, management and related subjects with notable representation of physicists and mathematicians with the occasional architect or dentist. I have also tutored in a range of subjects over the years: sociology and anthropology, philosophy and theology, and of course history and politics.
I am prepared to provide in-depth tutoring/lecturing and editing related to all areas of history, but am best applied to European history and medieval history specifically. I can for instance teach every module of the A level curriculum and, having a solid grasp of methodology, can support almost any undergraduate history student with their modules. An intimate understanding of the challenges and anxieties engendered by the university application process has in the past enabled me to support prospective students to good effect and I am always willing to continue doing so in whatever capacity is needed. Finally, my long-standing interest in philosophy and theology has equipped me to facilitate deep understanding and formation of valid opinion in those who might need support doing so.
