About Me

Hello! In a nutshell, I believe that learning is essential. We live in an age where it is often expected that individuals will construct their own worldviews and values. But one cannot build such an edifice without good ideas; no more than one could build a house without sturdy bricks. The skills which intellection supports have never been more important. Thus, it pays to have a good teacher. When not reading or teaching, I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities- particularly fishing and hiking.

Tutor Experience

I have been teaching since 2018; I have thousands of hours under my belt across a range of subjects and ages. I am currently studying for a PhD at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto where I also teach in the history faculty. I was a scholar at Eton College, then at Oxford and Cambridge; I received a First Class degree from both institutions. I focus on teaching pupils conceptual skills which allow them to tackle a broad variety of intellectual problems with ease; moreover I place a special emphasis on analysis that is concise, and methodologically coherent. Most, of all I enjoy seeing my pupils grow their own talents through the discovery of their intellectual, and personal, voice.

Topic Expertise

I teach history (ancient, medieval, early modern and modern), social sciences, theology, and philosophy between 11+ and undergraduate. I have taught the syllabi of nearly every accredited examination board in these subjects including OCR, Edexcel, AQA and IB, as well as catering to the specific examination schemata of many universities. I enjoy teaching the basic necessary skills of textual, conceptual, and critical analysis which comprise the majority of these subjects; I also work with the pupil to reach a detailed understanding of what markers and mark schemes require from successful candidates.

I also offer detailed guidance for undergraduate studies in history, theology, and continental philosophy. I have helped students with these subjects at KCL, UCL, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and, of course, in Toronto!

I have wide experience introducing younger pupils to more complex ideas through critical thinking and I likewise frequently provide guidance for schools admission and scholarship papers. I also coach for university applications (especially Oxbridge); be it interview, the personal statement, entrance examinations or aptitude tests. I also coach BP debating, as well as Model United Nations, and have competed both nationally and internationally.
