I'm a legal academic and consultant with a passion for learning, teaching, and writing. After completing my Law degree at Cambridge University, I went on to do my masters and my PhD at universities in The Netherlands. I worked as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University for 4 years, and as a PhD teaching assistant for 2 years prior to that, before relocating to Spain during the pandemic. Now my world is online, where I continue to teach and coach students in academic writing and law.
I have a great love of explaining complex ideas in simple ways. Academic writing, and law in particular, are often criticised for being too complicated and hard to decipher. But with strong structure and accessible language, even the most complicated concepts can be communicated clearly. That is the art of good academic writing.
I have been teaching law and academic writing for over 10 years. For 6 of those years I worked in university settings: first as a teaching assistant and later as an Assistant Professor. My time in university teaching gave me the opportunity to work with students from all over the world and to guide them through their undergrad, masters, and PhD studies.
Like many of us, in 2020 I transitioned to online work, and I have taught online courses for master students, supervised clinical legal research online, and delivered online legal trainings and workshops.
My principal areas of speciality are public international law, international human rights law, international criminal law, and academic writing. I have researched, taught, and published extensively in all of these fields, and I am always happy to share my passion for these subjects with my students.
Through my work as an online PhD Coach, I help aspiring PhD candidates write successful research proposals, and I coach current PhD candidates in academic writing, planning and organisation, and motivation.
Having attended Cambridge University to study Law, I know how tough the admissions process can be. I can help Cambridge applicants navigate the process and prepare for the Cambridge Law Test.
My key areas of expertise are Public International Law and Academic Writing. If you are thinking of applying to Cambridge I can help there too - I remember sitting the Cambridge Law Test at Robinson College like it was yesterday. I went in completely unprepared, but you don't have to.
